Companion dogs are great for people living in small homes and apartments and without a lot of space. Friendly and affectionate, like their name suggests companion dogs make great companions! These dogs love company and often hate to be alone. Companion dogs need to feel part of the family and want to be part of everything you do. If you chose a companion dog, expect a constant companion at your feet. The American Kennel Club does not have a separate breed group for Companion Dogs, but instead includes them with Toy Dogs.
The Alaskan Klee Kai is a highly intelligent, very curious, active, quick and agile little dog that quickly becomes an integral part of any family that chooses to adopt one. Unlike the Siberian Husky whom they resemble, the Alaskan Klee Kai is standoffish and suspicious of strangers. Because of this they do make extremely good watchdogs.
As of February 21, 2010 the Alsatian Shepalute was officially named the American Alsatian. This dog is the world’s only large dog breed that was bred primarily as a companion dog.

The British Bulldog is a wonderful family pet. It is quite lazy, is loyal and gentle around children.
The most popular of the hairless breeds, the Chinese Crested are still very rare. These dogs are alert, charming, agile, and lovable.
The German Pinscher can be a fantastic companion dog. This rare breed is brave, not squeamish, sober, and has good stamina. It is lively but has quite alot of arrogence, the German Pinscher is a great vocal guard dog.
The Great Pyrenees is a very capable guardian, it is completely devoted to its family, though somewhat wary of strangers both human and canine.
The Jack Russell Terrier is a cheerful, devoted and loving dog. This breed is absolutely fearless though they are so small.
The Japanese Spitz is a high-spirited, intelligent, and playful dog, that is alert and obedient. This bold little dog is a good watchdog and will alert its owners when it feels it is necessary.
