Whippet

Whippets are notoriously easy to please, having a coat that requires minimal care and also not being fussy or big eaters. Happily, this medium sized dog is also pleasant company, being a gentle and quiet housemate. The highly intelligent Whippet is also an easily trained dog, making this dog breed a suitable choice for a show dog, or the first time dog owner. Because of the Whippet's short and fine coat, it is not a dog that is suitable for an owner who wishes to keep their pup outdoors. Not only does their coat require protection from cold weather, the Whippet is best suited to the indoors and companionship with it's owner and family. Whippets are gentle dogs that make good family pets, and play well with small children. While they are not a guard dog, Whippets will bark at visitors or strangers approaching their family. As their ancestry suggests, Whippets do require daily exercise.

A member of the Hound group, Whippets were first recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1888.
The Whippet is the fastest dog breed in the world.
